Community Outreach at Bujumbura Hill, Hoima District

FAAYO partnered with the Kids Support Centre, CBO to hold a heart disease community awareness event on Sept 22, 2022 in Bujumbura Hill, a rural community in Hoima District. Volunteer nurse Julian and community volunteer William assisted Christine and Ruth in conducting the event. Over 85 people were in attendance. The sessions involved a review of Reach’s Community Awareness RHD flipchart which generated much conversation among the attendees. One attendee disclosed that they had stopped taking prescribed medications for a heart condition. Others talked about taking herbal treatments for their sore throat symptoms. One young boy described possible signs of RHD.

These discussions created the opportunity for FAAYO members to spread health messages to always seek proper treatment and always take and finish full doses of prescribed medications from healthcare personnel – even if they feel better after the first days of taking the medicine. Attendees were encouraged to visit the hospital to see a physician if inflamed tonsils and fevers are persistent.
